Dans l'yonne - In Yonne

Les archives départementales de l'Yonne disposent de quelques documents qui montrent la présence des américains dans l'Yonne. En effet, une demande du préfet pour toutes les communes du département a été faite pour connaître la disponibilité d'immeubles pour héberger les américains et surtout pour les soigner. Beaucoup de communes ont répondu négativement. On trouve cependant des listes d'exhumations pour de nombreuses villes qui permet de situer les lieux occupés.

 

The departmental archives of the Yonne have some documents that show the presence of Americans in Yonne. Indeed, a request of the prefet for all the communes of the department was made to know the availability of buildings to host the Americans and especially to treat them. Many municipalities responded negatively. There are, however, lists of exhumations for many cities that can be used to locate occupied places.

Au total, l'Yonne enterra 175 soldats américains et une infirmière sur son sol dont 129 seront rapatriés. Les autres ont été transférés à la nécropole américaine de Thiaucourt (dont 1 inconnu). Ce site internet a pour but de rendre hommage à chacun d'eux.

 

In total, Yonne department buried 175 Doughboys and a nurse on its ground, 129 will be repatriated.  The others were transfered in american necropole of Thiaucourt (with 1 unknown)This website aims to honor each of them.
