Né le 29 juin 1890 à HATINGS (New York, USA) fils de John James John O'REILLY (1848-) et de Catherine « Kate » CLANCY (1862-1941), il aura un frère et une sœur : Edward Francis (1892-1959), Loretta Ann (1897-1974). Célibataire et sans enfant.  Il avait créé une entreprise d’investissement et travaillait à son compte à DALLAS (Texas, USA), où sa famille avait déménagé avant la naissance de sa sœur. 

Physiquement, il était de taille et carrure moyenne, avec les yeux marrons et cheveux noirs.

 

Born on June 29, 1890 in HATINGS (New York, USA) son of John James John O'REILLY (1848-) and Catherine "Kate" CLANCY (1862-1941), he had one brother and one sister: Edward Francis (1892- 1959), Loretta Ann (1897-1974). Single and childless. He had started an investment business and was self-employed in DALLAS (Texas, USA), where his family had moved before the birth of his sister.

Physically, he was of average height and build, with brown eyes and black hair.

Il s'engage le 3 juillet 1917 à DALLAS (Texas, USA) en tant que « private » (soldat 2e classe) avec le numéro de matricule 1.509.999, où il est assigné au 6e régiment d’infanterie du Texas de la garde nationale, compagnie C jusqu’au 15 octobre 1917 où il rejoint le 111e train de ravitaillement, compagnie D. Il est promu « sergeant » (sergent) le 4 août 1917, repasse « private » le 10 novembre puis « corporal » (caporal) le 27 décembre et se voit rétrogradé « private first class » (soldat 1ère classe) le 9 septembre 1918 puis simple « private » le 12 septembre.

 

He enlisted on July 3, 1917 in DALLAS (Texas, USA) as a private with the serial number 1,509,999, where he was assigned to the 6th Texas Infantry National Guards Regiment, company C until October 15, 1917 when he joined the 111th supply train, company D. He was promoted to sergeant on August 4, 1917, returned to private on November 10 then corporal on December 27 and was downgraded to private first class on September 9, 1918 then simple private on September 12.


Le 31 juillet 1918, il embarque à bord de l’USNT ORIZABA depuis HOBOKEN (New Jersey), direction la France en compagnie de son régiment, de l’hôpital de base n°8, 111e régiment du train de munitions, du 111e ateliers mobiles de réparation d’équipement militaires  et du 132e régiment d’artillerie, pour un total de 3.299 personnes à bord. 

 

On July 31, 1918, he boarded the USNT ORIZABA from HOBOKEN (New Jersey), toward France with his regiment, base hospital No. 8, 111th ammunition train regiment, 111th Mobile Ordnance Repair Shops regiment and the 132nd artillery regiment for a total of 3,299 people on board.

 

La division fut envoyée en Europe en juillet 1918 et mène des opérations majeures lors de l'offensive Meuse-Argonne. Les 9 et 10 octobre, la division a participé à de violents combats près du village de Saint-Etienne. Suite à cette victoire, qui comprenait la capture de plusieurs centaines d'hommes et d'officiers de l'armée allemande, ainsi que de l'artillerie, l'unité lança un assaut près d'une zone connue sous le nom de "Forest Farm".

 

 

The division was sent to Europe in July 1918 and conducted major operations in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. On 9–10 October, the division participated in heavy combat near the village of St. Etienne. Following this victory, which included the capture of several hundred men and officers of the German Army, as well as artillery, the unit launched an assault near an area known as "Forest Farm."

 

Comme beaucoup d’hommes, il est atteint de la grippe espagnole et décède officiellement de pneumonie lobaire, le 18 février 1919. D’abord enterré à TONNERRE, il part pour le port de SAINT NAZAIRE le 30 octobre 1920 et y arrive le 2 novembre. Transféré 20 jours plus tard pour HOBOKEN (New Jersey, USA) à bord de l’USS WHEATON, il y arrive le 15 décembre et pour son dernier voyage du 31 décembre 1920 direction DALLAS (Texas, USA) où son frère l’attend. Il est enterré à DALLAS (Texas, USA) au cimetière « Calvary Cemetery ».

 

Like many men, he was infected by the Spanish flu and officially died of lobar pneumonia on February 18, 1919. First buried in TONNERRE, he left for the port of SAINT NAZAIRE on October 30, 1920 and arrived there on November 2. . Transferred 20 days later to HOBOKEN (New Jersey, USA) aboard the USS WHEATON, he arrived there on December 15 and for his last voyage on December 31, 1920, towad DALLAS (Texas, USA) where his brother waited him. He is buried in DALLAS (Texas, USA) at the Calvary Cemetery.
