Les journaux indique « Nous avons relaté hier qu’un soldat américain escortant un train de prisonniers allemands était monté sur la vigie d’un wagon, lorsqu’il fut violemment heurté à la tête par le tablier du pont situé près de la gare de Sens, sur la route de Saligny. Transporté à l’hôpital 25 à Sens, il a succombé à une fracture du crâne ». D’abord enterré à SENS, son corps est exhumé pour être transféré, le 14 juin 1922, à la nécropole de THIAUCOURT-REGNIEVILLE (Meurthe-et-Moselle, France), « Saint Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial ».
