Il aura quatre frères, deux demi-frères et une demi-sœur : Frank Farish (1889-1966), Thomas Sidney (1890-1966), Harry Joseph (1892-1980), Lon (1896-1968), William Pressy (1900-1983), Joseph Olaf (1910-1984) et Susie Daphne (1915-1988).

Il s'engage le 28 juin 1917 à FERRIS (Texas, USA) en tant que « private » (soldat 2e classe) avec le numéro de matricule 1.498.886, et est assigné au 144e régiment d’infanterie ; compagnie L jusqu’au 6 mai 1918 où il rejoint le 229e escadrille aéronautique. Le 2 juin 1918,il rejoint alors le 142e régiment d’infanterie, compagnie I. Il sera promu « private first class » (soldat 1ère classe) le 20 août 1918.
He enlisted on June 28, 1917 at FERRIS (Texas, USA) as private with the serial number 1,498,886, and was assigned to the 144th infantry regiment; company L until May 6, 1918 when he joined the 229th aeronautical squadron. OnJune 2, 1918, he joined the 142nd infantry regiment, company I. He was promoted to private first class on August 20, 1918.

On July 17, 1918, he embarked on the steamer RIJNDAM, of the Holland Amarica Line company, at HOBOKEN (New Jersey, USA), toward France with the 71st Infantry Brigade, the 132nd and 133rd Machine Gun Battalion, 142nd Infantry Regiment and Baker Company, for a total of 3,115 people on board.
La division fut envoyée en Europe en juillet 1918 et mène des opérations majeures lors de l'offensive Meuse-Argonne. Les 9 et 10 octobre, la division a participé à de violents combats près du village de Saint-Etienne. Suite à cette victoire, qui comprenait la capture de plusieurs centaines d'hommes et d'officiers de l'armée allemande, ainsi que de l'artillerie, l'unité lança un assaut près d'une zone connue sous le nom de "Forest Farm".
The division was sent to Europe in July 1918 and conducted major operations in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. On 9–10 October, the division participated in heavy combat near the village of St. Etienne. Following this victory, which included the capture of several hundred men and officers of the German Army, as well as artillery, the unit launched an assault near an area known as "Forest Farm."
Comme beaucoup d’hommes, il est atteint de la grippe espagnole et décède officiellement de broncho pneumonie, le 19 février 1919, un an, jour pour jour, après son entrée à Camp Bowie. D’abord enterré à TONNERRE, puis transféré le 14 juin 1922 à THIAUCOURT-REGNIEVILLE (Meurthe-et-Moselle), « Saint Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial » Carré A Rangée 4 Tombe 4.
Like many men, he was infected by the Spanish flu and officially died of broncho pneumonia on February 19, 1919, one year to the day after entering Camp Bowie. First buried in TONNERRE, then transferred on June 14, 1922 to THIAUCOURT-REGNIEVILLE (Meurthe-et-Moselle), "Saint Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial" Square A Row 4 Grave 4.
