Né le 18 mai 1895 à DANA (Indiana, USA), fils de James Augustus BOOKER (1873-1966) et Della Catharine BLAKESLEY (1867–1925), il aura trois frères : Charles Wesley (1893-1958), Carl Jennings (1898-1980) et Clifford Orville (1901-1945). Célibataire et sans enfant. Il travaillait comme fermier dans la ferme familiale, du côté de NORTH SALEM (Indiana, USA). 

Physiquement, il était petit, avait les cheveux marrons et les yeux bleus.

 

Born on May 18, 1895 at DANA (Indiana, USA) son of James Augustus BOOKER (1873-1966) and Della Catharine BLAKESLEY (1867–1925), he had three brothers : Charles Wesley (1893-1958), Carl Jennings (1898-1980) et Clifford Orville (1901-1945). Il est inscrit sur les listes de conscription le 5 juin 1917. Il obtiendra le grade de « private » (soldat 2e classe) ainsi que le matricule 2.896.571. Il rejoint le 25 mai 1918, la base militaire de DANVILLE (Indiana) pour intégrer la 1ère compagnie du 1er bataillon d’entrainement jusqu’au 11 juin où il est assigné au 7e train sanitaire, 35e hôpital de campagne.

Le 12 août 1918, il embarque à bord de l’USS MATSONIA à HOBOKEN (New Jersey, USA), direction la France, en compagnie de son régiment, du 7e laboratoire de campagne mobile et plusieurs escadrons aéronautiques, pour un total de 2.310 personnes à bord.

La totalité de la 7e division n'a pas vu les combats ; uniquement ses éléments d'infanterie et de reconnaissance. Le 11 octobre 1918, elle est venu sous le feu à Saint-Mihiel, et a subi les attaques chimiques. Des éléments de la 7e ont reconnu Prény, à côté de la Moselle, capturé des positions et conduit les allemands hors de la région. En septembre 1918, la division vient à la 15e zone d’entrainement dont le point central est ANCY-LE-FRANC (Yonne, France), à ARGENTENAY (Yonne, France).

 

The 7th division did not see action at full divisional strength, though its infantry and reconnaissance elements did engage German forces. On 11 October 1918, it first came under shell fire and later, at Saint-Mihiel, came under chemical attack. Elements of the 7th probed up toward Prény near the Moselle River, capturing positions and driving German forces out of the region. 

In september 1918, the division came to the 15th training zone whose central point is ANCY-LE-FRANC (Yonne, France), in ARGENTENAY (Yonne, France). 

 

Comme beaucoup d’hommes, il est atteint de la grippe espagnole et décède officiellement de broncho-pneumonie, le 21 septembre 1918, à 15h00, à l'hôpital d'ANCY-LE-FRANC. D’abord enterré à ANCY-LE-FRANC, son corps est exhumé pour être transféré, le 15 juin 1922, à la nécropole de THIAUCOURT-REGNIEVILLE (Meurthe-et-Moselle), « Saint Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial ». Like many men, he was infected with the Spanish flu and officially died of broncho-pneumonia on September 21, 1918, 03:00 p.m., at ANCY-LE-FRANC hospital. First buried in ANCY-LE-FRANC, his body was exhumed to be transferred on June 15, 1922, at the necropolis of THIAUCOURT-REGNIEVILLE (Meurthe-et-Moselle), “Saint Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial”.
